Dear all:

WE HAVE MOVED TO http://pearl.tudelft.nl !!!

(this blog will move there too, in due time).

We are collecting the first data, and the data looks good. We’ll show you some as soon as the first PEARL publication is out.

spin-off

In preparation for the 24-september-2015 opening workshop, DEMO has produced the first spin-off product of PEARL.

ECNS conference presentation of PEARL

update:

just received an email by the European Conference for Neutron Scattering organizing committee, about the presentation of PEARL that I will give:

Topic: Neutron Instrumentation, Optics, Sample Environment, Detectors and Software
Session Code: NI5-O8
Date and Start time: 2015-09-02 18:15:00
Date and End time: 2015-09-02 18:30:00
Room: MOZART

hope to see you there!

NWO review panel very positive about PEARL

My personal interpretation of the NWO review of PEARL (progress), now for the third time, is that the committee members were positively impressed by the performance of the instrument. Credits from neutron experts to everybody that works or worked on PEARL over the last five years! It is, yes, 5 YEARS that the PEARL project is running, and the first experiments are simply REWARDING.

Which is good news for Dutch neutron diffractonists who need a world class instrument “next door” to their lab. Coming online soon….

synchron, free electron laser and neutron meeting of the Belgium/Dutch user community.

PEARL was presented at the SyNew 2015 meeting in Utrecht, where scientists from NL and B meet up to discuss their work which relates to synchrotron X-rays, neutrons and free electron lasers. The first PEARL users, outside of the TU Delft, have been identified, so we need to tidy up the machine.

opening + workshop = 24/25 Sept 2015

PEARL will be formally ‘opened’ at the 24th of September 2015. We will also organize a (neutron) diffraction workshop that day. To be announced formally soon!

ECNS-2015

PEARL will be presented at the ECNS 2015, Zaragoza, Spain, with the first (promising) data!

PEARL produces first commissioning data!

This week the detector was finalized with all 1408 pixels now installed. The data we took sofar shows us that the instrument works well and we hope to be publishing the first results soon.

last 2 banks ready

With these two banks, we are approaching the end of the 'detector project' part of PEARL.

With these two banks, we are approaching the end of the ‘detector project’ part of PEARL.

These 2 banks are going to be installed on Monday: it is the wrap up of the design, manufacturing and installation of the main-components of PEARL. A memorable moment, especially for Raymon and Fred who have meticulously worked on ‘encrypting’ neutron counts into light and electronic signals and then Kees who had to undo all that, so that the PEARL user sees a diffraction pattern on the instrument computer screen.

All this would have been way-out of our league if we would have had the support of our ISIS colleagues Erik, Nigel and Jeff: many many thanks from Delft for all your efforts.
